While the college gymnastics team made plans to travel by charter bus to the meet, the parents were making their own plans. One group was working on signs to hang in the arena, another group was making plans for a team dinner following the meet, and a final group was working on decorating the hotel room door as a surprise to the girls when they arrived.
The coach and her staff made all of the plans and set the itinerary to travel by charter bus, but once the team arrived the parents were ready to be greeters, supporters, and feeders! At the previous two meets only a portion of the team had been able to travel because the coach had bought airline tickets. On this trip, however, all of the gymnasts would be at the meet, whether they were competing or not, because the decision to travel by charter bus allowed everyone to attend. In fact, the special events tour bus was big enough that the team was even traveling with a trainer to this meet.
Traveling by Charter Bus Is Economical, Safe, and Convenient
Athletic teams and other groups have many options when they are making their travel plans. And while flying may often seem like the most efficient method, the decision to use charter buses often makes more sense. When a team, for instance, makes the decision to travel by charter bus they often find that they arrive at their destination more rested and more ready to compete.
Economical
Airfare tickets are expensive. The decision to travel by charter bus, however, often allows more people to reach a destination at a lower cost. The motorcoach industry, in fact, accounts for 631,000,000 passenger trips a year in the United States and Canada. With buses that hold 50 passengers, for instance, a college athletic team can make sure that every one of their members gets to make the event. On many smaller teams, in fact, athletes can each have their own row of seats. In addition, teams that travel by bus can avoid the expense of having to ship equipment to an event. With plenty of overhead storage space for carry ons and enormous under the bus storage room for equipment and larger suitcases, teams can avoid any additional shipping costs and carry all of the equipment with them.
Another economical advantage of traveling by charter bus is the fact that some hotel costs can be avoided. Traveling over night, for instance, eliminates one or two night of hotel room rentals and allows travelers to comfortable rest while the driver gets them to the destination.
Safe
A charter bus company has a number of stringent safety rules that they must follow. For instance, drivers are limited by how many hours they can drive. This may mean that a trip may actually have more than one driver on board, or it may mean that the bus will make a stop and actually switch out drivers at some point. In comparison, when athletic teams or other groups provide their own drivers and travel by school or college vans finding a driver who is not tired or distracted can be a challenge. Charter bus travel, however, helps guarantee a well rested and qualified driver at all times.
Although charter bus travel is safe for the passengers, it is also safe for the environment. For example, switching to motorcoach travel for the 12,500 miles traveled annually by the average automobile can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 4.3 tons per automobile a year.
Convenient
In addition to being economical and safe, charter bus travel is also convenient. Charter buses can pick you up and drop you off anywhere. The fact that the driver does the parking means that you can enjoy the convenience of walking long distances to and from event venues.
Also, charter bus travel is convenient because it allows travelers to enjoy many of the amenities that they have at home. On board WiFi and power outlets, for instance, allows traveling collegiate athletes the opportunity to complete their homework and other class assignments while they travel. Unlike air planes where travelers are asked to power down their electronics, charter buses allow passengers to stay connected.
